Due to a lifeguard shortage in the area, the pool will only have one lifeguard available on weekends and holidays. The lifeguard will have long days on the weekends and will require two breaks/pool closures.

The lifeguard is tasked with enforcing the rules – note that they have the authority to temporarily ban you from the pool if you break the rules or act disruptively. Please familiarize yourself (and members of your unit/family) with the following rules to help us all stay safe while having fun:
General
- Swimming is only permitted when a lifeguard is on duty. A solo lifeguard may require residents to exit the pool for a short time when necessary. At closing time, all residents must exit the pool enclosure in a timely manner.
- Lifeguard equipment is only for the use of lifeguards.
- Electronic devices are permitted on the pool deck area outside of the black deck line. Devices must be used in a manner that does not disturb any other residents.
- Foul language or aggressive/abusive behavior will not be tolerated.
Hygiene
- Swimmers must shower immediately before entering the pool and after using the toilet.
- No person infected with a communicable disease or having open sores on their body shall enter the pool.
- No person shall pollute the water in the swimming pool in any manner (e.g. spitting, spouting water or blowing their nose into the pool or onto the pool deck).
- Food is not permitted inside the pool enclosure. Plastic water bottles are permitted.
- All infants must wear a diaper and a bathing suit.
- Smoking is not permitted within the pool enclosure.
Safety
- Pool clearance drill involves three long blasts of the whistle and requires all swimmers to clear the pool immediately.
- No running on the pool deck
- No long or deep dives are permitted. One person at a time on the diving board.
- Glass face masks, snorkels, fins and hockey pucks are not permitted. Small goggles and plastic facemasks are allowed.
- Pool toys and pool noodles are permitted in the pool area. Be respectful of others using the pool and all usage is at the discretion of the lifeguards.
- Flotation devices (children’s arm floaties, life vests, etc.) that are firmly attached to swimmers under parental supervision are permitted.
Pool Usage
- A float rope will divide the shallow and deep ends during open swim times.
- The left side of the pool is a designated lap lane. Swimmers are expected to use other areas of the pool if someone wishes to swim laps.
- All children must be capable of swimming two lengths of the pool in order to swim in the deep end. Lifeguards will test children and maintain a list of all qualified swimmers.
Pool Key
Residents must have a key to access the pool. Only unit owners may sign for and/or purchase a key. Please note that only 2 keys are issued per unit. Please retain your receipt as you will be required to present it to the Board should you require a replacement or a refund for a second key. Tenants must obtain their key from their landlord.
If you need a new or additional key, or a replacement, call Catherine Foster, our Property Manager, at (613) 736-7807, ext 100. Catherine will arrange for you to meet with a Board member at the Administration Building, located at 515 Orkney Private. A second key can be purchased for $10.00. Lost keys will be replaced at a cost of $25.00. Payment options include cash (payable at the site office), or by cheque made payable to C.C.C. No. 38. Upon request, the amounts can be added to your monthly fees if you pay by pre-authorized payment.
Pool Access
Maximum number of 30 people in the pool enclosure. A lifeguard will sign you in by collecting your name and address. The lifeguard will not allow access to anyone who does not have a key.
Pool Closures
The pool will close due to inclement weather such as heavy and continual rain, lightning storms or when lifeguards are not available. Every effort will be made to post a notice on the gate during these times.
Guests
A total of 4 guests per unit are allowed at the pool. Guests are the responsibility of the resident and are to be accompanied at all times. A resident must be 14 years of age or older to sign in a guest. Residents have priority at the pool and visitors will be asked to leave first when at capacity.
Children
Guardians or group leaders should be at least 12 years old. Guardians are responsible for the children in their care while in the facility and must always supervise the children.
Children younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their direct supervision. For each parent or guardian, there is a maximum of 2 children under 6 years old.
Children 10 years old or older who have passed the swim test are able to be at the swimming pool unaccompanied.
Washroom
The washroom in the Administration Building will be available and the outdoor shower must be used prior to going into the water.
